King Charles and Queen Camilla have hosted the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace, and Queen Camilla debuted a new-to-her tiara that is a family favourite.
The Queen wore an aquamarine and diamond tiara that both Queen Elizabeth II and the Duchess of Edinburgh have worn. The stunning tiara features five large oval aquamarines surrounded by diamonds in a ribbon design.
The tiara remains somewhat a mystery – historians do not know which jeweller created the tiara or when it was made. It was first seen in 1970 when Queen Elizabeth wore it while on tour in Canada.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore the tiara for two royal weddings: first in 2012 for Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg’s wedding, and then in 2013 for Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s wedding.
This is the first time that Queen Camilla has worn the tiara. She paired it with her own personal aquamarine and diamond necklace and drop earrings.
The Queen also wore King Charles III’s Royal Family Order, as well as the insignia of the Order of the Garter.
This reception is typically held at the beginning of December each year. However, it was moved to accommodate the upcoming Qatari State Visit. The reception sees several hundred diplomats invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Monarch in the State Rooms, to celebrate their roles.
The Prince of Wales joined Their Majesties but the Princess of Wales, who completed chemotherapy earlier this autumn, did not attend.
