King Charles III has presented a special honour to over 150 members of the Royal Navy who took part in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
His Majesty bestowed the Royal Victorian Order on service personnel who took part in the funeral processions for Queen Elizabeth in September 2022.
The special ceremony, at Windsor Castle, saw recognition for those involved including over 100 Naval Ratings who drew the State Gun Carriage, bearing Her Late Majesty’s coffin.
The honours were announced in March 2023 in the demise honours list.
The special ceremony and parade took place in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle with relatives of those being honoured present for the event.
His Majesty looked moved as he spoke to some of the personnel and pinned the Royal Victorian Order to their uniforms.
The Royal Victorian Order was established in 1896, just before the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It is given to those who have provided distinguished personal service to the Monarch or a member of their family.
Recipients place the letters RVO after their name. King Charles is now the Sovereign of the Order.
The ceremony took place on May 30th 2023, closing the month in which King Charles III was crowned.
