King Charles greets the Bo’ness Fair Queen at start of his first Holyrood week

It was the 74-year-old King’s first engagement in a busy week during which he will be presented with the Scottish crown jewels, known as the Honours of Scotland as the nation marks the Coronation with a service of thanksgiving on Wednesday.

The Honours, comprising the Crown of Scotland, a sceptre and a newly-created sword named after Elizabeth II, will be collected from Edinburgh Castle and paraded down the Royal Mile to St Giles’ Cathedral in a procession involving around 100 people representing different aspects of Scottish life.

The King and Queen, accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, will take part in a royal procession.

Holyrood Week traditionally sees the monarch spend a week based at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, carrying out engagements celebrating Scottish culture.
