King Charles does not “want to get involved” with Prince Harry’s security woes, a royal commentator has claimed.
The Duke of Sussex has been in an ongoing legal battle with the UK Government after he contested the Home Office’s February 2020 decision that he should receive a different degree of protection when he returned to the country following his departure from the Royal Family the same year.
He lost the case in February, with High Court judge Sir Peter Lane finding that “there has not been any unlawfulness in reaching the decision” to revise his security. However, he is expected to appeal in April.
But now a royal commentator has claimed that the King is in “no position” to decide or help with Harry’s security battle against the UK authorities and that the monarch “doesn’t want to get involved” in what would be a “potentially difficult conversation”.
Royal author Ingrid Seward told Fox News: “The king is in a position where the security and who gets the security is decided by the government, and the government is not the monarch.
“When Charles was Prince [of Wales], he could do more, but as monarch, he has to be very careful.”
Ms Seward added that the King cannot get involved with Government policy and that the “easiest way out is to let somebody else deal with Harry”.
She said: “I am sure that somebody talks to Harry, it just may not be his father.
“And in a way, that’s probably because his father just doesn’t want to get involved.
“He hasn’t got time; he hasn’t got the inclination, and he probably hasn’t got the energy for what would be a potentially difficult conversation.”
Buckingham Palace has previously stated to the Daily Express that they wouldn’t comment on security matters.
