King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have continued their tour of Sweden’s 21 counties with a visit to Uppsala County.
On 27 April, the royal couple arrived by train at Uppsala Central Station, where they were warmly welcomed by the Governor and his wife.
The Uppland Museum was the first stop for Their Majesties, where they toured the exhibit “Royal Visit – Uppland & the King.”
The King and Queen also attended a jubilee program at St. Erik’s Square, which included performances by Uppsala music classes, poet Ingrid Stenlund, and the Home Guard’s music band.
The King then delivered a speech to the county residents, highlighting the visit’s significance and expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome. The royal couple then travelled to Uppsala Castle’s courtyard in a horse-drawn procession.
The Governor and his wife hosted an anniversary lunch featuring Uppland’s regional food traditions before celebrations continued in Castle Park, where the royal couple participated in a tree-planting ceremony.
The King put soil on the tree using a 3D-printed shovel as a local choir performed several spring songs. The anniversary visit ended with four Jas 39 Gripen fighter planes from Uppland’s air fleet carrying out a flyover over Uppsala Castle.
As part of the King’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the King and Queen are visiting all 21 counties of Sweden ahead of the official celebrations in September.
