The Royal Watcher - Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Happy Birthday to Sultanah Maliha of Kedah, who turns 76 today! The member of Kelantan Royal Family married to the 29th Sultan of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha has only been seen wearing one spectacular Diamond Tiara!
A striking Diamond Tiara featuring the Coat of Arms of the Kedah Sultanate, with the escutcheon, a crescent, and a wreath. The Tiara was created in 2003, around the time Che Puan Besar Haminah was installed as the Sultanah of Kedah in 2004.
As her only Tiara, Sultanah Haminah wore the Kedah Diamond Tiara for all Investitures and Banquets until 2011, when she wore the Diamond Tiara for the arrival in Kuala Lumpur for her husband’s second term as Yang di-Pertuan Agong until 2016.
At the end of their term as the King and Queen of Malaysia, when she wore the Gandik Diraja Tiara, Sultanah Haminah wore the Kedah Diamond Tiara for a Banquet after returning to Kedah, short before the Sultan’s death less than a year later.
An heirloom of the Sultanate, the Tiara passed along to the next Sultanah, who notably wore the Kedah Diamond Tiara twice during the Coronation Celebrations in Alor Setar in 2018.
The following year, Sultanah Maliha wore the Kedah Diamond Tiara for the Installation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia as well as the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet in 2019.
Over the past few years, Sultanah Maliha has often worn the Kedah Diamond Tiara for the opening of the state legislature and the Sultan’s annual Birthday Banquets.
More recently, Sultanah Maliha wore the Kedah Diamond Tiara for Installation of the King of Malaysia and also for the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet in 2024. There is no doubt we will continue to see it for years to come!
