Kate and William turn down luxury hotel for ‘self-catered cottage’ | Royal | News

Princess Kate and Prince William have turned down the opportunity to stay at a luxury hotel in Scotland next week – instead opting to stay at a “self-catered cottage”. The couple are set to spend their anniversary in the place where their romance began in the early 2000s – Scotland.

Kate and William’s visit – scheduled for April 29 and 30 – will see them spending Tuesday night in a cottage situated on the picturesque Scottish island. The couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.

With Kensington Palace having announced the visit earlier this week, the tour will focus on celebrating and connecting with rural communities in the Scottish Highlands – with specific focus on the Isles of Mull and Iona.

William, 42, and Kate, 43, began their relationship as students at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where they both studied in the early 2000s.

Since their royal wedding, the couple have welcomed three children together – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, who celebrates his seventh birthday today.

The start of their trip will see the couple visiting the town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Kate and William will then pay a visit to artisan market inside Aros Hall – a local community hub – and meet with some of the town’s arts and crafts creators.

During the second day of their visit, the royal couple will visit the Isle of Iona, where they’ll meet with rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service.

The couple spent their 13th wedding anniversary last year relatively away from the spotlight due to Princess Kate’s earlier cancer diagnosis.

The royal annouced that she had been undergoing chemotherapy just a few weeks prior to their anniversary – in March 2024.

Kate revealed in September that she was in remission, sharing that she was to “remain focussed on recovery”.
