King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee celebrations have come to a close in Stockholm with a carriage ride through the city and a concert at Norrbro.
On Saturday, 16 September, King Carl Gustaf and his wife, Queen Silvia, took part in a horse-drawn procession through the heart of Sweden at the end of his Golden Jubilee weekend.
The couple left Stockholm Palace in an open carriage with six horses pulling, which is also used on National Day and various special events. Crowds of thousands lined the streets to see their monarch, in addition to the three thousand members of the armed forces along the route.
The King and Queen then travelled a short distance by car. They rode in the oldest car in the Swedish Royal Family’s collections, a 1950 Daimler DE27 Limousine.
They travelled by river on the royal sloop Vasaorden, a barge designed in the 1770s and rebuilt in 1923.
After the procession, the Swedish Royal Family hosted a Jubilee concert at Norrbro. Several different musical acts played popular Swedish songs from His Majesty’s reign, including Magnus Uggla’s “King in the Bar,” which the King sang along to.
All of the members of the family looked to enjoy the concert, with The King’s daughter (Crown Princess Victoria) and granddaughter (Princess Estelle) – those next in line to the throne – laughing together. The concert wrapped up The King’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
