There were scenes of jubilation in Berkshire on Thursday after King Charles III and Queen Camilla recorded their first-ever Royal Ascot winner.
Desert Hero, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Tom Marquand, won the King George V Stakes by just a head.
Starting at odds of 18/1, Desert Hero was not fancied by many to win the race.
However, the horse showed a gutsy turn of foot, powering home in the closing furlong to claim victory.
The King and Queen arrived at the winners’ enclosure to greet Desert Hero and congratulate their trainer and jockey.
The Princess Royal and Zara Tindall joined Their Majesties in the winners’ circle as the horse received a well-deserved washdown.
The King and Queen then posed for pictures alongside the horse before going on to collect their prize.
Presenting the trophy for the race was the Duke of Kent. His Royal Highness shook His Majesty’s hand before handing him the prize.
