Govt To Launch Generic Ad On ‘makhana’ Soon | Patna News

Patna: Agricultural experts and government officials discussed in detail the issues related to the production, processing, identification and trade of ‘makhana’ (fox nuts) at the first-ever national conference on ‘makhana’ held here on Tuesday under the joint auspices of the International Makhana Centre (IMC) and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in association with Chandragupt Institute of Management-Patna (CIMP).
The state development commissioner Vivek Kumar Singh inaugurated the conference. Agriculture department’s secretary N Sarvana Kumar, state horticulture director Nand Kishore, Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s acting director Ashutosh Upadhyaya, C M Science College’s former principal and ‘makhana’ expert Vaidyanath Jha and CIMP’s director Rana Singh were also present on the occasion.
All the participants highlighted the importance of increasing production of nutritious food supplement ‘makhana’ through technological interventions.
It emerged at the conference that on the request of PHDCCI’s chairman Satyajit Singh the agriculture department has agreed to launch generic advertisements on ‘makhana’ by the state government on the pattern of milk and egg. This will be quite helpful in creating awareness about ‘makhana’ in the masses and in promoting its trade.
The Bihar’s Mithila Makhana has recently been accorded Geographical Indication tag by the government.
