Extinction Rebellion protesters have delivered some post to King Charles via a fake postbox, with protesters lining the streets in Windsor.

@XRDidsbury on X shared a picture of protesters standing close to Windsor Castle today, August 31.

The social media update, posted shortly before 12 noon, read: “Delivering the post in #Windsor #DecideTogether #ExtinctionRebellion.”

The banners held by the protesters read signs such as, ‘Upgrade democracy’, ‘This is a call for revolution the earth is under threat’, and ‘revolution is a strong word and I use it deliberately’.

On Friday, it was revealed that extra police have been drafted in to protect Windsor Castle and the Wales family cottage.

According to a source, “hundreds” of police officers have been deployed to protect royal residences on the Windsor estate over the next three days – including King Charles and Queen Camilla’s home, Windsor Castle, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Adelaide Cottage and even Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge.

A source said: “There are hundreds of police at the protests over the next few days, more than what would normally be at an event like this.

“The reason there is such a large police presence is because XR said they would try and storm the castle. There will be extra resources allocated to prevent that from happening.”

Climate activists marched down The Long Walk, the two-mile-long avenue leading up to Windsor Castle yesterday, in an event dubbed “Upgrade Democracy”.

XR hopes the publicity from storming the castle will help boost their profile and enhance their demands for a citizens’ assembly to be established to tackle the climate crisis.

The group added that they would not be targeting an individual but “the system” as they demand immediate action and a ban on fossil fuels.

In a statement on their website, XR said King Charles “clearly understands” the plight of the planet and “the urgent need for society to change course”.
