Tense relations have remained between Prince Harry and Prince William since Harry departed life as a working royal in 2020 and moved to America to settle with his wife and two children.
Since the relocation to Montecito, California, Harry has taken part in public interviews, starred in a Netflix docuseries, andreleased a bombshell memoir depicting his time as a Royal Family member, deepening the rift between the two brothers.
Now, a new documentary has been aired in Germany on December 3, titled ‘Harry: The Lost Prince’ from award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald, showcasing the couple’s life in California.
Speaking to the Mirror, royal expert Duncan Larcombe commented on whether the new show will impact Harry’s existing relationship with the royals.
He said: “It’s hard to say if the documentary will impact Harry’s relationship with the royals because there are signs that things might be thawing.”
The expert believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have kept quiet about any new revelations affecting the Firm since the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare in January 2023.
The expert added: “It’s been quite a long time now since Harry and Meghan have dropped any bombshells. Since Harry’s book Spare came out in January, it’s been a relatively quiet time and he’s kept his mouth shut.
“Since then, he’s met up with his dad – albeit very briefly. It would be a real shame if the documentary put those possibilities of a thawing in the relationship back a peg or two.”
Prince Harry last saw his father back in February 2024, after King Charles publicly revealed the news of his cancer diagnosis.
Harry immediately flew to the UK to see his father, however, he only spent a short time with him at Clarence House, before departing back to the UK.
Harry last saw William at the private funeral service of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes this summer. Both princes attended the funeral at St Mary’s Church in Norfolk “discreetly” to pay tribute to the brother-in-law of Diana, Princess of Wales.
The claim the Duke of Sussex travelled to the UK came as a surprise as a source had previously said Harry would not travel across the pond for the poignant occasion.
However, a source described as a close family friend claimed to the Sun they were “very happy to confirm both princes were there”.
The reunion to honour their uncle seemingly didn’t bridge the gap between Prince Harry and Prince William, with a local claiming they were not seen speaking to each other and “kept their distance” during the service.
Lord Fellowes died aged 82 on July 29. He was a key figure in the Royal Family, not just for being related to the royal brothers through his marriage to Lady Jane Spencer but also because he worked as a press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II for 13 years.
