Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “too thin-skinned” to branch out into the world of politics, according to royal correspondent Richard Palmer.

It has been reported that Meghan is planning on setting her sights on a move into the political field, particularly after a string of unsuccessful ventures.

Taking to the latest episode of the Daily Express’s Royal Round-Up, Mr Palmer stated that Meghan’s reported plan will likely be a bad decision for, not only her, but also for Prince Harry too.

Speaking of the couple, and how they have so far handled any form of criticism that comes their way, he referred to the couple as “too thin-skinned” to be entering such a field as politics.

The couple have often been criticised for their own comments, many aimed at the Royal Family, with Mr Palmer stating that this is why a move into politics may not be right for them.

Typically someone who is a member of the Royal Family would not venture into politics, with this being described as a “tricky area” by host Pandora Forsyth.

Mr Palmer said: “This one keeps coming back, I’ve never really found any evidence to back it up.

“I said on social media, a quick tweet, that I’ve always found it difficult to believe partly because she and [Prince] Harry have proved to be so thin-skinned in handling the scrutiny [and] criticism that goes with being a member of the Royal Family.

“I’m just not sure whether the rough and tumble world of politics is for either of them.”

With Ms Forsyth stating that it wouldn’t be “impossible” if she did want to go for a position in politics, seemingly because Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals, Mr Palmer said: “She sees herself as s social activist and some of the work she’s been doing [has] certainly been around the [area] of the democratic party’s agenda.

“[and] certainly there have been a few junior democrats, I have called them, who have gone on the record and said it would be great to have her on board doing [things] for the party.”

With no confirmation that the rumours are true, Mr Palmer concluded that he does find it “difficult” to believe.

If the Duchess was to branch out, she has been encouraged to “ditch” her royal association and not use her roiyal title.

Pauline Maclaran, a Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, University of London, told Express.co.uk: “I don’t think she has built enough of a trajectory to be taken seriously enough as a person.

“She has always expressed strong opinions and more recently she has lobbied for parental leave and vaccine equity, but I’m not aware of anything else she has done that is a sign of her intention towards politics.

“I don’t think she has built enough credibility yet.”
