For their final engagement of their four-day trip to Colombia, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made an appearance at Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival in Cali – with Prince Harry addressing a huge, cheering crowd.
Jumping up on stage alongside his wife, and Colombia’s vice president, Francia Márquez, Harry first addressed the crowds in Spanish, wishing them a good evening, and then thanking the vice president.
Harry, 39, then turned to Meghan, 43, and asked “can you help me translate?” with Meghan nodding and adding “of course”.
In English, Harry addressed roaring crowds and said: “Thank you for your beautiful culture, and thank you, thank you for your incredible hospitality.”
After each sentence, Meghan took hold of the microphone and translated Harry’s words of endearment. Fans of the Duke and Duchess have praised the couple for their efforts. @FourTomatoz on social media platform X, wrote: “Prince Archie and Princess Lili Diana’s parents are so in love. Here Prince Harry was asking his wife Meghan Markle to translate his thankful remarks into Spanish for the audience. What a team.”
Another fan expressed their joy at the couple trying their best to speak Spanish. @Qiyyah18 wrote: “Prince Harry speaking a little Spanish & Meghan translating in front of that massive crowd is amazing!!! Colombia has been awesome!!”
A third fan wrote: “We love a tag team! In English, Prince Harry thanks Colombians for their hospitality while Meghan plays his Spanish translator. It’s very much giving Dubbo, Australia ‘I have my wife’ vibes. IYKYK.”
An excited fan of the couple wrote: “It’s a slam dunk. Sweet to watch. Prince Harry asks his wife Duchess Meghan to translate his English into Spanish in Colombia.”
Commenting on the final day of the tour, a social media user said: “Love #PrinceHarry speaking Spanish, LOVE #MeghanMarkle as a translator. Love the cheers, what a visit!”
On stage, the couple were given a bottle of Viche, an alcohol local to the Pacific region of Colombia, as well as a wooden marimba, a local instrument similar to a xylophone, to remember the country’s music. Before leaving the stage, the couple hugged the children’s choir who had performed.
The Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival aims to celebrate Afro-Colombian culture via the realms of food, art and fashion, and attracts up to 500,000 people each year.
For the final event of the night, Megan wore a green and white dress for the festivities, whereas Harry wore a blue linen shirt and dark trousers.
In an Instagram post on the Festival Petronio Álvarez account, Meghan and Harry were said to be in ‘#Petrionio2024 mode’ as the loud crowd cheered them on – the event was the finale of Harry and Meghan’s four-day tour of the country.
