Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh owns a beautiful aquamarine ring worth an eye-watering £80,000 which has caused both confusion and intrigue over the years.
Jewellery experts at Steven Stone have explained how the ring is similar in style to another Royal Family member’s piece.
Commenting on Sophie’s cocktail ring, Maxwell Stone said: “Sophie Wessex’s aquamarine cocktail ring has long been a subject of fascination and occasional confusion, largely due to its striking resemblance to one worn by Meghan Markle – a piece that originally belonged to Princess Diana.
“Aquamarines and other light blue gemstones have become signature elements of the Duchess of Edinburgh’s jewellery collection, with one of her most memorable appearances being at Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s wedding in 2013.”
The ring in question is thought to be from Collins and Sons, boasting a 20-carat aquamarine. Set in platinum, the experts reveal the style appears to be a cushion-cut stone.
Duchess Sophie, previously the Countess of Wessex, is renowned for her poise, timeless style and a sparkling collection of jewellery that beautifully complements her royal duties.
Her cocktail ring is similar in style to the aquamarine ring donned by Meghan Markle worn at her wedding reception in 2018.
Maxwell Stone added: “Meghan’s ring, which was given to her by Prince Harry for their wedding reception, features a huge emerald-cut aquamarine, flanked by two small solitaire diamonds. Set in 24-carat yellow gold, the ring was only worn by the late Princess of Wales on two occasions before her tragic passing.”
He added: “While it’s no doubt priceless, if it were available to buy, it would be worth around £85,000 – closely mirroring the value of Sophie’s exquisite piece.”
