Diamonds and emeralds for a grand duchess in waiting that link her to some of her royal family’s most famous women – Royal Central

One day, she will be Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and there was a sparkling reminder of that for Princess Stephanie as she joined her royal family to welcome the President of Czechia on a State Visit.

For the glittering State Banquet held in the Grand Ducal Palace, Stephanie wore one of Luxembourg’s most famous tiaras for the first time. This diadem has only ever been worn by women who have been Grand Duchess and its appearance on the wife of the current heir to the throne is a reminder of the role that awaits her.

Stephanie wore a diamond and emerald tiara known as the Chuamet Emerald Tiara. It is an Art Deco-style tiara made with intricate diamond-scroll designs and featuring a large central emerald.

Created in 1926 by Chaumet using pieces already found in the Grand Ducal Family’s collection, the large cabochon emerald is framed by diamonds and set in platinum. It was first worn by Grand Duchess Charlotte, who received it as a Christmas present from her husband, Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma.

Some of the pieces Prince Felix sent to Chaumet in Paris to create this tiara reportedly included a pair of earrings, a necklace, and a brooch. The Chaumet Emerald Tiara became one of Grand Duchess Charlotte’s favourites, and she wore it frequently throughout her reign.

After Charlotte’s abdication, the new Grand Duchess, Joséphine-Charlotte, wore it less frequently. Eventually, the tiara passed to Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who wore it regularly at the beginning of her husband’s reign, but hasn’t worn it much in the later years.

Now is has been worn by Stephanie, Hereditary Grand Duchess for the first time.
