David Beckham makes a style statement inspired by royalty and Queen Camilla is impressed

A new rose has been named in honour of King Charles III and David Beckham was one of the first to wear it.

The King Charles rose was unveiled as celebrities rubbed shoulders with royalty at the Chelsea Flower Show. As The King arrived for his annual visit, he met David Beckham who had one of the bright pink blooms pinned to his jacket.

However, it was Queen Camilla who made the most of the star studded button hole. As she shook hands with David Beckham, she gestured to the rose with appreciation. The England football legend told her ”it’s so beautiful, so beautiful, congratulations”.

it’s another indication of the strong relationship between David Beckham and the Royal Family. Along with his wife Victoria, David was one of the guests at the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales. The star’s appreciation was on show in 2022 when he famously queued up incognito for hours to pay his respects at the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Hall.

The new flower has been created by David Austin Roses to honour the work of Charles III at his King’s Foundation and is the first striped rose developed by the firm. A donation of £2.50 from each sale of the flower will be made to The King’s Foundation.

Harkness Roses is making a similar donation from each sale of its brand new rose, named in honour of the Princess of Wales. The Catherine rose was revealed earlier this month.

Naming flowers in honour of royalty is a long standing tradition. Several were named for Queen Elizabeth II including Royal Jubilee, a shrub named for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Two roses were named after Diana, Princess of Wales in the year of her death.

Princess Alexandra of Kent has a bright pink rose in her name, to celebrate her love of gardening, while the Princess Anne rose is a deep pink.
