An Inverness gym owner has just published his first book.
Dan Moore, who runs Dan Moore Elite Training, in Longman Drive, wrote I’ll Start Next Monday during the second lockdown.
He said he had always loved reading, adding: “It’s been a lifelong bucket list item and I’ve always read a lot – I said ‘I fancy writing a book’.”
Mr Moore started writing the first draft in May last year and he set a target of finishing the first draft in 90 days.
It went to press in March this year, after going through a couple of edits, and it is self-published.
He said he found a publisher online – Rethink Press – and they helped him with marketing and design as well as giving him constructive feedback on what he had written.
“They took me and a group of five or six other authors through the process,” he said.
The book’s subtitle is “the blueprint and mindset on how to live a healthy life” and he said the book aimed to get people to live a healthier lifestyle without suffering “self-sabotage” and going back to their old ways.
He added: “It’s more about mindset rather than fitness. You have to understand why you are doing it.”
Mr Moore said it also aimed to help people to live longer as well as being a good role model for their children. He added: “For me that’s more important.”
When he was writing the first draft he gave copies to friends and clients for feedback which he said was generally positive – however, the publishing company highlighted a number of issues such as repetition.
He said: “If I had put out the first draft it wouldn’t have been as good.”
Once he started the first draft he said he was committed to the project and he found writing the first half quite enjoyable but he “hit a wall” during the second half when he suffered from “writer’s block”.
“The second half was a grind,” he added. “I had to work hard to write the second half of the book.”
However, he said it felt good to have finally finished the book and he has already had sales and reviews on Amazon – it has also hit Amazon bestseller status online.
