Crown Princess Mette-Marit missing from Olympics trip as reports emerge of family issue

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has delayed her attendance at the Summer Olympics in Paris with the royal court also confirming she has been dealing with a family situation in Norway.

The Crown Princess had been due to attend Olympic events with her husband Crown Prince Haakon from August 6th 2024, as announced previously by the Royal Court. However, the future king arrived solo in Paris and attended events with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and Prince Albert II of Monaco instead.

The Norwegian Royal Court shared that Crown Princess Mette-Marit “hopes to travel down [to Paris] later.”

However, the Crown Prince is now scheduled to attend several events by himself. No official reason has been given for Mette-Marit missing the start of the trip.

However, Norwegian tabloid Se og Hør reported that Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit born during a relationship before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, had been arrested over the weekend after an alleged assault in an apartment building in Frogner.

According to their reports, a woman called police following an incident and Høiby was arrested and placed in solitary confinement. He was released on Monday and the Norwegian Royal Court has referred all comments to his law team.

Høiby does not carry out official duties on behalf of the Norwegian Crown and has, since he reached his majority, lived as a private citizen out of the spotlight.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit had been due to attend the Olympic Games through 10 August, following a holiday break.
