Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has taken part in the Royal Life Guards Parade in Copenhagen, attending on behalf of Queen Margrethe.

The Queen of Denmark continues to recuperate after recent surgery.

The parade took place, according to tradition, on the exercise ground at the Lifeguard’s Barracks in Copenhagen.

During the parade, the Crown Prince bestowed the “Queen’s Watch” upon a guardsman at the Life Guards Barracks in Copenhagen. During the Clock Parade, Guardsman Mads Karrebæk Mortensen was honoured with the “Queen’s Watch” by the Crown Prince, in recognition of his outstanding service during his tenure with the Guard Company.

At the conclusion of their service, the Guard Company selects the Guardsman who has exemplified both exceptional service as a soldier and demonstrated camaraderie, to be bestowed with the prestigious “Queen’s Watch” award. The Guardsman is chosen by their superiors and peers, who place great emphasis on these attributes during the selection process.

The tradition of presenting the watch has been in place since 1970, when it was introduced to commemorate Frederik IX’s 70th birthday. Following the change in monarch in 1972, the watch was renamed “The Queen’s Watch”, and Her Majesty has since carried on the practice.
