Today marks the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Countess Estelle Bernadotte, who was born on this day in 1904! The American Heiress who married the Swedish Count and became a beloved member of the Swedish Royal Family, Countess Estelle possessed this delicate Diamond Tiara!

Queen Sofia’s Pink Topaz Tiara | Diamond Tiara

While the exact origin of this delicate Diamond Tiara is unknown, it is thought to have been an inheritance, like Queen Sofia’s Pink Topaz Tiara, from her mother-in-law, Princess Ebba Bernadotte, and may have originated from Queen Louise of Sweden.

Countess Estelle began wearing the Diamond Tiara after Count Folke’s tragic assignation in 1948, usually wearing the Tiara for the Opening of Parliament as well as some Banquets at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

In 1974, Countess Estelle notably wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding of Princess Christina of Sweden and Tord Magnuson at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Countess Estelle also wore the Diamond Tiara for the final Swedish State Opening of Parliament (Riksdag) in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

After Countess Estelle’s death in 1984, while Queen Sofia’s Pink Tourmaline Tiara and Parure were inherited by her elder son, the Diamond Tiara and Necklace was left to her younger son, Count Bertil Bernadotte af Wisborg, and were worn by his wife, Countess Jill Bernadotte, from then on.

Countess Jill wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding of Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth in 1998.

Over the years, Countess Jill has often worn Countess Estelle’s Diamond Tiara for numerous Swedish Royal Occasions, including the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in 2010 as well as the Wedding of Princess Madeline of Sweden in 2013. There is no doubt we will continue to see this heirloom Tiara for years to come!
