Today marks the Anniversary of the Birth of Madame, The Countess of Paris, who was born on this day in 1911! The French-born Brazilian Princess who was the Consort of the Head of the House of Orléans for over sixty years and the mother of eleven illustriously married children, the Countess possessed some spectacular heirlooms, but later loaned some splendid jewels, which included the Chaumet Curvilinear Tiara!

This spectacular Chaumet Curvilinear Tiara was designed by Joseph Chaumet around 1930 in gold and silver, set with large natural baroque pearls in a diamond scroll design, and was described as:

Created by Joseph Chaumet in the 1930s, this tiara is a perfect illustration of the elegant wedding jewel. The stunning set of natural baroque pearls associated with the diamonds creates a harmony of pure white colours. This tiara, a symbol of honorable status and marriage, reflects the spirit of the tiaras that the Empress used to wear in her time. The soft and feminine design evoking the curves of ribbons, a symbol of attachment matched with the theme of the bowknot.”

While the history of the Tiara between the 1930s and the 1990s is unknown, it was in the Chaumet collection when they loaned it to the Countess of Paris for the spectacular Wedding Ball of her grandson, Duke Philipp of Württemberg, and Duchess Marie-Caroline in Bavaria at Schloss Nymphenburg in 1991.

By the 1990s, the grand Orléans Sapphire Parure usually worn by the Countess had been sold to the Louvre and so she borrowed the Chaumet Curvilinear Tiara on several occasions, notably wearing the Tiara in some official portraits and even a painting.

In 2015, Chaumet loaned the Curvilinear Tiara to Chinese Actress Angelababy for her wedding to Huang Xiaoming, the most expensive wedding in China’s history.

The Curvilinear Tiara was also among the Chaumet Jewels displayed for Victoria Romanovna Bettarini ahead of her Wedding to Grand Duke George of Russia in 2021.

The Chaumet Curvilinear Tiara resides at their historic flagship store at 12 Place Vendôme in Paris and has also been exhibited at Chaumet exhibitions around the world, most recently at the ‘Chaumet in Majesty: Jewels of Sovereigns since 1780’ Exhibition in Monaco. There is no doubt we will continue to see this Tiara for years to come!
