While the exact origin of the striking stylised Diamond Bow Brooch is unknown, it seems to be a historic heirloom of the Bavarian Royal Family, likely dating back over a century, though it has been a favourite of the Duchess in Bavaria for decades since the then Countess Elisabeth Douglas-Stjernorp auf Mühlhausen und Langenstein wore the Bow Brooch for her Wedding to Prince Max, Duke in Bavaria in 1967.

Princess Elisabeth, Duchess in Bavaria notably wore the Diamond Bow Brooch with the heirloom Diamond and Pearl Tiara for the Wedding Ball of Duke Philipp of Württemberg and Duchess Marie-Caroline in Bavaria at Schloss Nymphenburg in 1991.

The Bow Brooch and the Diamond and Pearl Tiara were also worn by the Duchess in Bavaria for the Wedding Ball of Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein and Duchess Sophie in Bavaria in 1993.

The Duchess in Bavaria also wore the Diamond Bow Brooch for the Wedding of her daughter, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, and Daniel Terberger at Schloss Tegernseee in 2004.

The following year, the Duchess wore the Diamond Bow Brooch with her Douglas Floral Tiara for the Wedding of Prince Manuel of Bavaria and Princess Anna of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg in Sweden, and the Bow Brooch was also worn for the Wedding of Princess Maria Felipa of Bavaria and Christian Dienst in Steingaden in 2012.

Hereditary Princess Sophie first wore the Diamond Bow Brooch with the Habsburg Fringe Tiara for Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2018, before wearing it later that year for the Wedding Ball of her niece, Duchess Sophie of Württemberg.

A few years later, Hereditary Princess Sophie wore the Diamond Bow Brooch for the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in 2022.

More recently, Hereditary Princess Sophie wore the Bavarian Diamond Bow Brooch to the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey in 2023, and there is no doubt she will continue to wear it for years to come!
