An elusive tiara that we may finally see more of

While it does not make frequent appearances, there is one mysterious European tiara that features February’s birthstone. With a change coming in Luxembourg, we may see it more often, though. 

The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg have a strong jewellery collection with several historic pieces in their vaults. 

The family holds a mid-century bandeau style tiara; the tiara features several large oval amethysts with smaller white stones set in between in two rows. However, the Grand Ducal family has not confirmed whether or not these secondary stones are pearls or a different gem. 

The tiara is part of a demi-parure; there is a coordinating necklace with oval amethysts set amongst two rows of white gems with a square amethyst drop and a pair of earrings with a pearl-shaped amethyst stud with a detachable pearl-shaped amethyst drop. 

It is believed that Grand-Duchess Josephine acquired the tiara; her daughter, Archduchess Marie-Astrid of Austria, was pictured wearing the tiara. 

We do not see this tiara worn frequently. However, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie has worn this tiara multiple times, so perhaps we may see it more come October when she and her husband become the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.
