A chance to get close up with Coronation history at the Buckingham Palace summer exhibition – Royal Central

Some of the most important items from the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla will have a starring role in the summer exhibition at Buckingham Palace.

The outfits worn by The King and Queen as they left Westminster Abbey following the ceremony will be displayed in the Palace Ballroom.

It will be a first chance to get a close up look of the intricate designs of both ensembles.

Her Majesty’s Coronation dress, by Bruce Oldfield, features embroidery denoting the four floral symbols of the countries of the United Kingdom.

The King’s Coronation shirt, decorated at the collar and cuffs with embroidered oak leaves and acorns, will also be on show along with the Royal Navy trousers worn with them throughout the service.

His Majesty’s purple Coronation tunic, worn for departure from the Abbey, will also be displayed. The Robe of Estate used by King Charles, and also worn by his grandfather, George VI, for his 1937 Coronation will form part of the exhibition.

The purple velvet will be shown alongside the Robe of Estate of Queen Camilla which was made for the Coronation and which features golden embroidery depicting flowers including the delphinium, the favourite of The King.

King Charles III’s Stobe Royal is part of the exhibition – it was presented to His Majesty during the Coronation Service by the Prince of Wales.

There is also a chance to see the Coronation Glove as well as the Coronation Sword Belt.

And keeping to the theme of the year, the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which was used by Their Majesties to travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the Coronation, will also be on show at the Palace’s State Entrance.

The exhibition, curated and run by the Royal Collection Trust, is part of the summer opening at Buckingham Palace which runs from July 14th until September 24th 2023. Tickets are available to buy now at the RCT website.
